A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE SILVER STAR FAMILIES OF AMERICA
My Friends
My name is Steve Newton and I am the President of the Silver Star Families of America. The Silver Star Families of American was born to recognize, remember and assist the wounded of our armed forces from all wars.
We honor and remember our wounded primarily by the presentation of Silver Star Banners, certificates and letters to our Wounded or their families. The tradition of the Silver Star for the Wounded dates back to 1917 when people used to sew over a Blue Star with Silver thread to signify a Wounded Soldier.
It is our wish that every time someone sees a Silver Star Banner in a window or a Silver Star Flag flying, that they remember the blood shed for this great Nation.
A few months back we embarked on a mission to have one day set aside to honor ALL our wounded. Purple Heart recipients, victims of friendly fire, kids injured in a war zone, those who suffer from PTSD, Agent Orange effects and Gulf War syndrome.
To date 44 states and many cities across the country have declared May 1st “Silver Star” day to remember the sacrifice of our wounded. I want to thank the Governors, Mayors and the people of the states and cities that have signed on for their patriotism and desire to remember and honor our wounded.
We would like you to join with us in honoring our wounded on Silver Star Day. Visit a V.A. medical center; a veteran’s home; a military hospital. Drive with your lights on; Say a prayer; Sponsor a Silver Star Banner for a wounded Soldier.
If nothing else at 5:00 pm central, stop and REMEMBER. Remember those that have shed blood and given up so much for you and I. Remember those who have been affected by the horrors of war.
I am also asking all veteran organizations to join with the Silver Star Families of America to say thank you to our wounded. The SSFOA honor and respect all who support our military.
